Judy B. Chiles-Dent is serving in her 2nd year as the principal of Oakwood Adventist Academy. She graduated from Oakwood College in 1972 with a degree in elementary education. She earned her Master's degree in school supervision and administration from Bowie State University. Over the last 48 years, she has held the positions of teacher, public school principal and vice-principal, and Superintendent of Schools for Allegheny East Conference. While serving Maryland's Prince Georges County Public School System as an elementary school principal for 14 years, she was twice, in two different years, nominated from among an estimated 4,100 public schools in the DC, MD, and VA region as a finalist in the Washington Post's annual "Principal of the Year" recognition. She has been married to Joseph Dent for 44 years, he a former school and college administrator and former Superintendent of Schools of South-Central Conference. They have 5 adult children and one 10th grade granddaughter who attends Takoma Academy in Takoma Park, MD, with plans to follow in her grandmother's footsteps to enroll at Oakwood University.
